Planet of the Apps

Hi Humans,

In honor of May Day, a holiday that celebrates workers around the world, I would like to begin today’s post by showing my gratitude to all the working dogs out there. So if you are a Bernese Mountain Dog, a Boxer, a Mastiff or a Schnauzer – we salute you!

1. Programs. I would like to take this opportunity to thank David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel for their creative suggestions for new DOGTV shows. Why didn’t we think of these? Unfortunately guys, while people may enjoy watching “Shih Tzu My Dad Says” or “The Bichlorette” , I am not sure your dog would find them as amusing.

That’s why we are currently creating new programs that your dog will enjoy – and find  stimulating, relaxing, and entertaining. We are working hard to provide your dog with the right content – that will meet his needs and cater to his unique doggy senses. So if you are currently watching DOGTV On Demand in San Diego (with Cox or Time Warner Cable) or online (through our streaming service), let us know what you think of our fresh, scientifically designed programs on our Facebook page. I’m positive your pooch will love them!

2. Apps.  I would also like to thank everyone who downloaded our new app for your iPhone and iPad. And so you won’t think that we only love our apps, here’s 5 more cool doggy apps that I’ve downloaded from the app store and enjoy playing with:

“NM Dogs”: Nature Mobile’s Dog Pro is probably my favorite app about dogs. It includes a great breed guide, lots of info and pictures on each breed, and the bonus – a quiz game! can you recognize the breed?

“Dog Anxiety“: This app gives you all the information you need about separation anxiety at dogs. Brought to you both in the format of a book and an audio book, this will give you all the answers you need, if your dog suffers from separation anxiety.

“Pets Next Door”: This sweet app is like a gps for dogs and cats: Ever wanted to meet your neighbor dogs? Here you can meet your next door pets, participate at different contests (“Have you got the cutest poodle?”) and more.

“Off Leash”:   Eukanuba’s “Off Leash”  is very helpful cause it allows you to find an off leash park near you.

What I love about “Perfect Dog is that they match you the perfect dog that suits you most, based on your lifestyle. Just put in the data, and the app will find  the perfect dog for you. If you were wondering, according to the app the dog that is the perfect match for me is the Kooikerhondje. Never heard of this Dutch dog? here you go:

Is this the perfect dog for me?

3. Apples. Speaking of iPhones and iPads, I must admit that we never anticipated iPads would become so popular among dogs! We did know that cats have a great time with some of the entertaining iPad apps – I know my cat Charlie loves this one. But it turns out, that dogs don’t settle for watching DOGTV on their televisions, they are now going for the iPads! I saw lots of sweet videos on YouTube of dogs watching DOGTV on iPads, and wonder what would Mr Jobs have to say about it had he still been around? (He would probably advice the dogs to go for the New iPad…) Anyhow, this is one of my favorites - this dog is actually watching our manual (“How to Use DOGTV”?). This is one educated dog!

4. Walk. What are you doing this coming Saturday? If your answer was “walking”, you answered correctly.

The 18th Annual “Walk for Animals” is taking place in San Diego this coming Saturday – and it is a really important event. According to the San Diego’s Humane Society’s site: “You and your furry friends will have a tail-waggin’ good time as we walk to celebrate our love for animals while raising the vital funds needed to ensure that every companion animal can find a loving home”.

This is a fun walk – that you can do with friends, family, form a team or join ours. And most importantly, you can help animals find homes. Watch this touching video  to see some really great moments humans and animals share. I loved this one.
