When most people think of the United States Military, men and women in camouflage uniforms come to mind. Well, I am here to put another image in your mind. The women and men of the military are not the only brave souls serving our country; man’s best friend is also among the courageous souls. Here at DogTV, we would like to take a minute to salute these brave souls with a WOOF!
If you take a moment and search on Google for “military dogs,” a lot of touching content generates including how some of our fearless animal companions are honored while serving in the military. As Lee Greenwood would sing, “these dogs are proud to be Americans.”
After doing a little research about military working dogs, I wondered what happens to these dogs when they complete their military service? Who takes care of them? And then I found the Military Working Dogs Adoption organization and learned how people like me and you can adopt one of these loving, heroic, fuzzy friends. Established in November 2000, this website serves the purpose of making the retiring military working dog adoption process easier for those interested in giving a forever home to a deserving veteran or civilian. Check it out!
So, today, I would like to not only thank the men and women who are serving our country; I would like to also give a big thanks (and belly rub) to all the military pups.
Do any of you know a dog that is in or has been in the military? I would love to hear your story in the comments below.
